It turns out that the best teachers are the best learners

I try to make a habit of visiting the Innovation Unit site on a regular basis because I am a fan of their educational research and practice. I have been most impressed with the pursuits of  Valerie Hannon and David Price. I came upon their great animation and  it offered some challenging points regarding teaching and learning. Try answering these questions before you watch:

• What defines great teachers or school leaders?
• What makes a great education system?
• How do you help a group of people to sustain an open and curious mind to teaching and learning?
• What defines a vibrant learning culture?
• How would you rate yourself in regards to professional learning and development? Are you making steady progress, should you pick up your game?
• What responsibility do school leaders have to their staff?

 

What makes great teachers or school leaders? Their degree or knowledge… maybe their ability to engage learners.

What makes a great education system? Is it rigorous standards, teacher training, state of the art facilities or money? It’s about great teachers.

What defines a vibrant learning culture? There must be opportunities and commitment for learning in all parts of the system and diverse forms of support: learning communities, practitioner based research, reflection courses, peer feedback, shadowing, mentoring and coaching

How would you rate yourself in regards to professional learning and development? Are you making steady progress, should you pick up your game?

What responsibility do school leaders have to their staff? To foster the ambition of their staff to grow and nurture a learning culture.
